Post of the Day

Not much in the way of magic, but I have done other things recently. I went to a haunter house today. It was okay. It could have been a lot more scarier if you could have seen that there were people chasing you. About 75% of the time, it was pitch black, and you couldn't see a thing. The parts that I could see were pretty cool though. It was fun.

Afterwards I went driving with my Dad. I drove around our neiborhood a little bit. Then, I drove up to my house. It was very fun and a little scary. I hope to do some more soon.

Saturday is the 1.5 tournament at The Dragon's Table. I hope to play a modifide version of my Draw Go deck. I made some changes, but I don't know if they are going to make it better or worse.

Well I got to get going. So until later,

Post of the Day

Tongiht was bland. I did a little testing. There wasn't really a lot of quality players to play against. I did get my Learner's Permit for driving. It means that I can drive as long as there is a licenced resposible adult in the car with me. I modded my Mono-Blue control deck, for Type 1.5/1, to include Mirrodin. I need to test it to see how it does compared to the old build. Other than that, not much went on today. So I guese until later,

Learner's Permit

Well I post again tonight, so check back later.

Post of the Day

My day was not boaring. I got 100% on a test in Drivers Ed. That was fun. I also went to the Dragon's Table. I put together another build of Affinity and tested it a bit. It is doing a lot better than my previous build. I have been getting some turn 4 kills. We also played a little bit of Munchkin Fu. It was okay, but it is not as good as Muchkin or Star Munchkin. I also traded for a Chrome Mox, still need two for my set of four.

I have posted my States Report. I also posted my Review of Scary Movie 3.

Tomarow I am going to the DMV to get my learners permit. I should pass the test just fine. I got to get up early though. Soon I shall be driving.

JSS starts in two weeks. The first one I am going to is at the Dragon's Table, on November 8th. The next one will be the week after, at MooCon. There is another about two weeks after that. And then the last one I have a chance of participating in will be at Pastimes, in Chicago. I will probally play Affinity, unless it starts to suck. I hope I do good, I really would like more $1000 scholarships.

I think that is about all for today. So until later,

My 4-4 Journey Through States

States was fun! I participated in this years States in Illinois. It was the first States event that I have played in. I tested for about 2 weeks to prepare for it, I should have tested more but oh well. I went with my friends Kurt and Nathan, and also my Dad. It was held in Chicago, at Pastimes, so it was a long three hour drive, but I had my new Mario game for the ride. We left at 6 in the morning and got back 10:30 at night, not to bad for a day at a big event.

We arrived at Pastimes at about 9:15. We quickly got a seat at an empty table at started to fill out our deck sheets. We got that done and turned them in. But I was still missing a Karma for my sideboard. I went to the dealers tables and was surprised to find one for just a dollar. Now I had my deck ready, and my my forms turned in, it was time to trade. I couldn't find a lot of good trades. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, so that might of been why I couldn't find any. I was able to trade two Goblin Lackeys for a Squee.

This ended up being my deck. I have made many changes since the tournament to improve my deck. I also made some last minute changes before the tournament, so my deck wasn't as fully tuned as I would have liked. Here is the list anyways:

//All American Machinery
4x Thoughtcast
4x Broodstar
2x Thirst for Knowledge
4x Mana Leaks
2x Future Sight
4x Atog
4x Frogmite
4x Myr Enforcer
4x Talisman of Progress
2x Welding Jar
2x Lightning Greaves
2x Neurok Hoversail
4x AEther Spellbomb

4x Great Furnace
4x Ancient Den
4x Seat of Synod
4x Glimmervoid
2x Island

SB: 3x Pyroclasm
SB: 3x Shatter
SB: 3x Karma
SB: 3x Tempest of Light
SB: 3x Second Sunrise

Before I knew it, the first round was starting. My first opponent was Darren, he was playing goblins. The first game I couldn't draw an Island to save my life. I was holding double Broodstar and lots of card drawing. Game two I sideboarded in two Second Sunrise, I didn't really know what else to put in. This game went a lot better. It was pretty even until the end. I was able to get an Atog with flying out. I was then able swing for the win, narrowly missing double Siege Gang beats. Game three didn't go well. Only creature I had was Atog, and I had to sac everything to save it. After which I took massive damage from hordes of goblins.

Round two I play against Roberto, playing a combination of Mono-Black Control and Zombies. Game one I got no land, yet again. At this point I find that keeping one land hands just wont work. I side in two Shatter and three Karma. Turn three he plays an Oblivion Stone, and the next turn I top deck a Shatter. I ended up having Karma on the table, along with a Broodstar, which quickly depleted his life. Game three was about the same. I ended up having double Karma, and when he tried a desperation Consume Spirit I Mana Leaked it.

I played against a goblin player, named Jerret, in round three. He had a spacemonkey on his T-Shirt, which is what I shall blame my loss on. It mesmerised me into making dumb mistakes. I made a lot of bad player errors, and lost to the stampede of goblins.

Andrew was my fourth round opponent, he also played goblins. Game one was close. I ended up with a Broodstar and an Atog on the board that won me the game. Game two proves my point that, just one land is not a keeping hand. Hey that rhymed. Game three was pile driver beat down. At this point I find out that my deck is having a lot of trouble against goblins.

My fifth round opponent, Chris, dropped to me.

Round six I played against Brian, he was playing a U/R version of Affinity. Game one he got really mana screwed. Game two I shattered his AEther Spellbomb, and then swung in with a massive atog. Next turn he would have killed me with his Broodstar.

My seventh round opponent was Jordan, playing G/R Beats. Game one, he got out a very big Forgotten Ancient. I chump blocked all I could, but was not able to stop it from killing me. Game two, he stalled on one land. I killed him with Myr Enforcers. Game three, I get a turn 4 Broodstar. I then attacked with it until I won.

My final opponent was Eric, playing B/R Land Destruction. I have to paris down to five. I keep a hand with only Glimmervoid. It wasn't until about 5 more turns that I got a playable land. He played a couple of big creatures that I could not deal with. Game two, he killed all my creatures, then he played his own. I yet again could not deal with them.

My record for the day was 4-4 match wise, and 9-10 game wise. Not to horrible. I learned a lot about my deck. Like, I should never keep a one mana hand no matter how good it will be with just one more. Also, I need cards in my sideboard to deal with goblins. About 30% of the people there were playing Affinity decks. Very little slide. I played a lot of goblins. Mono-Black cards were the most traded, dealers were offering ten cash for an oblivion stone. All in all it was a very fun day, and would most likely go again.

Scary Movie 3 Review

Scary Movie 3 came out weekend. I saw it Sunday with my friend Andy, and it was a great movie.

Scary Movie 3 is the third in the series of Scary Movies, kind of obvious. I liked the first one a lot, but I thought the second one was really awful. I thought this one would be better since it was directed by someone else. I turned out to be right, it was a lot funnier than the second.

Scary Movie 3 is based off one of my favorite scary movies, The Ring. It was mainly a combination of jokes about The Ring and Signs. It also had jokes about other recent movies, like 8 Mile. If you haven't seen The Ring or Signs, I recommend seeing those first so that you better understand the jokes. It is still a good movie if you haven't seen either of those.

This movie turned out to be very funny, and I had a great time seeing it. I recommend seeing it if you are looking for a good laugh. I give it a 8/10

Post of the Day

Got back from states last night. It was pretty fun. Look for the tornament report either tonight or tommarow. Luke from the U of I top eighted. Good for him! I am not sure how he finished, cause I didn't stay until the end.

I Have gotten the game Super Mario Advanced 4: Super Mario Bros. 3. Long title, good game. I have been playing it all yesterday. Only at level 5. I will have a review in about a week.

Today is Type two at the Dragon's Table today. I hope to do good. I have a lot more expirence from yesterday, so I should do better. I am also going to go and see Scary Movie 3 today at around 5. I should have a review tonight or tommarow of that.

Hmm, what else happened. Not much, all my day yesterday was states. I did add a link a two. Well I will post some reviews and stuff in the next two days, so make sure to check back. Until later,

Post of the Day

Well tomorrow is states. I did some testing today, my deck seems to do about 50/50 vs. most everything. If nothing else it will be fun. Around Monday or Tuesday I will have a tourney report on states. I shall include a deck list too. I am still looking for a Karma or two and a Talisman of Progress to complete my deck. Hopefully I can get them tomorrow at reasonable prices.

I have also got the new Mario Advanced 4: Mario Bros. 3 game from Best Buy tonight. It was like $27 dollars after tax, not too bad. It should be good since it is a direct port of the original. I will post a review sometime next week.

I continue to play the [Battlecards] beta. They did an update Wendsday night. In it they fixed a few bugs, including the 90 damage Hydra. The update also fixed the packaging error with Ninja.

I checked out the box for Battlefield 1942: Weapons of WWII, and it looks like a pretty good expansion pack. Once it drops to 20 dollars I will probally get it. It includes mobile spawn points, jetpacks, and a motor cycle.

Not much else happened today. So until later,

Post of the Day

First of all I have done a huge, well not huge just changing colors, update on this site. For the Halloween holiday, I have changed the site colors to be festive. Orange and black for pumpkins, red for blood, and white/grey for bones/tombstones. With the changes has come a new poll. Back to the regular news.

Nothing to exciting today. Played some type two, I went about 50/50 against zombies. I did about 70/30 vs. WW. I think I will do decent at states. As long as I win more than lose I will be happy. I still need some cards, hopefully I can get them before Saturday. I need mostly uncommons.

Last night I found out that it is very easy to hack battlefield 1942. Hopefully they can fix it before it becomes an issue. I guess it kinda already is, since I was very easily able to find the hack and install it. I only tried it for experimental purposes. From what I saw you can get a very big edge on your opponent. Also from what I saw almost no one uses this hack, so that is good.

Currently the [Battlecards] servers are down. I read they will be up by the weekend. There are more players on it though.

I am debating weather or not to get the new GTA double pack for XBOX. I have both for PS2 already, but the double pack offers custom soundtrack and improved graphics. The PC versions also have custom soundtrack and custom skins, but lame graphics and clunky keyboard/mouse controls. I love the idea of having your own soundtrack for the game, I think it will add a lot of replay value. I also love the idea of improved graphics. But will these features be worth the 50 dollars. I could trade in my old copies of GTA for the PS2, but then I couldn't use the old saves unless I rented it. I would also have to replay threw both games again, but that isn't necessarily bad because of the great story and missions. I think I will end up trading in my two GTAs towards the Double Pack. I think it will be lots of fun.

I think that is about it for now. So until later,

Post of the Day

I just got back from Dragons Table. It was a usual night. We played some type one, type two, and mental magic. It was quite fun. I got to test my affinity deck some more. I figured out that talismans work a lot better than myrs.

Yesterday, I played affinity in the type two tournament at Dragons Table. I went 1-2. At least I didn't do as bad as last week. I plan on playing this at states. It will be fun if nothing else.

I also revamped my academy deck this weekend into a cross between Burning Desire and Eggcademy. I am currently trying it out to see how it works. I will report later on how the change effects its performance.

Today I also started Driver's Ed. Soon I shall be "BEHIND THE WHEEL!" It is a fun class, and the teacher is very nice.

I have also been playing more [Battlecards]. It is a fun game. I think more people are playing it now since I have found some online. There are three big known bugs so far, one of which has been fixed. One, a very rare card, called Ninja, was accidentally placed in the common slot. This made the overpowered card over-available. It has since been fixed, but it has been rumored that a new rarity problem has occurred. Second, there is a card, called Hydra, which is supposed to do 10 x 1-3 damage instead it will likely do 30 x 1-3 damage. This makes the card very overpowered, because this card happens to be a common. And last, I have found if you make an exactly 40 card deck when the game is supposed to load it, it will instead load the rest of your card collection. These are the only bugs that I know of currently. But the game is still super fun. I highly recommend trying it.

For now I think that is it. I keep trying to revamp my site, if you have any suggestion email me. I am getting back to posting more links, but still kinda lazy. So until later,

Post of the Day

Today I got in the top four of the "mox, box, and sox" tourney. I played mono-blue control. It was quite fun. I went into the finals with a record of 4-0-1, and my only lose was vs. gro-a-tog, played by Tim. I ended up winning four packs. Not that great, but it was more of a personal victory. I did make my deck all on my own, no deck lists involved, so that makes me happy that I did so good with my own creation.

Tommarow is type two. I plan on playing affinity. It is more fun than u/g madness, and it is based on the same engine. I hope to do better than last time, I went 0-3. I think I can do better than that.

Hmm... what else happened today? I can't really think of much. My day was just the tourney. Oh, I know! I retired the Halo demo, and I took away a lot of the visual effects, and it had a far better fram rate. So now I am again interested in it. Oh and by the way, please try the [BattleCards] open beta here. I am always willing to play/trade.

So that is about it. Until later,
Grapes17

[BattleCards]

Check out this new game called [BattleCards]. It just went into open beta, which means anyone can test it. It is pretty simple and is easy to learn. It is a massive multi player online card game, much like magic online, but this uses a new and simple game. Try it. If you need someone to play with email me at voidmage17@hotmail.com or I am on aim with the name DreamcastFreak17. Try it.

Post of the Day

Today was ok. It was my Mom's birthday today. Happy Birthday! And I went to my friend's house. I helped him install Apprentice, and we also played some magic. Other than that not much else happened.

I did play in the Screen Savers LAN Party last night. They played Batlefield 1946. I pretty much sucked, but I did get to kill that annoying Morgan Webb, she co-hosts X-Play. Oh and today I downloaded the demo for Halo on the PC. I only tried the multi-player half, but there was so much lag that it was unplayable. Maybe their servers were really busey. I will try again tomarrow.

Oh, and tommarow is the "Mox, Box, and Sox" tournament at Parkland. It will be type one, and the prizes are a mox for first, a box divided among the rest of the top eight, and a pair of fancy socks for the person who gets last.

One last thing, I changed the layout of the links and added a poll. I know that the "is" is in the wrong place. Vote! So until later,

I am somewhere else. Just trying updating my blog at a different location. Check out the new links on the side. I will update later tonight.

Post of the Day

Today was a little boaring. I went to The Dragons Table, and of coars no one was there. So I then went gift shopping for my Mom, and got her some stuff.

I have been playing with my new computer alot recently though. The games I have been playing are: Team Fortress Classic, Castle Wolfinstien: Enemy Teritories, and my new game I just got Battlefield 1942. My computer runs these all very good.

Battlefield 1942 is turning out to be a great game. I plan on reviewing it in about a week. So until then I don't want to say to much.

Oh, and yesterday I went and got a computer gaming magazine to see what they are all about. I got Computer Gaming World. It was $8.99, which is a little costly, but it did come with a demo disc. I got home, opened it, and found out that it is only $26 for a years subscription. Thats 12 isues and 12 demo discs. So I will most deffenitly subscribe to it.

Speaking of demos, I downloaded the demo for XIII (otherwise know as thirteen). It looks like it is going to be one awsome game. It was only a multi-player demo, but it showed alot. The graphics are stuning, and the action is fast paced. I can't wait for this game to come out.

Well I am getting tired of typing, part of the reason for no links today, so I will end my post. Until later,

Post of the Day

Hello. Today has interesting. I found out my computer was having some trouble keeping it's cool. I installed a new fan, and raised it off my carpet. That seemed to do the trick. Now it is running very smothly. I am also able to play Enemy Teritory, which is a very good multiplayer game.

I also went to The Dragons Table, and I had a blast. I did a little type one testing. I also played some sealed deck. And then after that I played, yet again, more mental magic. Oh, is it fun. If youl haven't tried it, you should.

This will be a short post today because I want to play some more games. So until later,

Post of the Day

W00T! W00T! W00T! W00T! W00T! W00T! W00T! W00T! I finally, finally, finally got my new computer!!!!!!!!!!!! Enoughf W00T!s. I did finally get a new computer. I did alot of the building of it, Brian did the installing and a little of the building, and my Dad helped alot with handing us parts and acculy putting it in my room. Props go out to all of you. Oh heck, one more W00T! *does very happy dance* oh yeah! Now on with what else happened today, which compared to my computer being installed is crap.

Today was the first Nov type two tourney held at Dragon's table. I attempted playing my Red Rain deck. I went 0-3 with it. Now I could blame it on my terrible mana screw, but it just comes down to the fact that the deck sucks really bad. It made me sad going 0-3, but hey now I know what not to play at States. Jimmy won the tourney with R/W Slide. GO JIMMY!

Afterwards I played alot of mental magic. Man is that format fun. If you havn't played it, you must try it.

If you notice the lack of links in this post, it is because of the lack of time I have to search for them. I am really wanting to install everything.

Well until tomarrow,
Grapes17

P.S. Nathan if you would like to post on this site please email me and I will help you get set up. Maybe I will come over tomarrow(Monday).

Post of the Day.

Ah, today was quite fun. I played in the 1.5 tournement and got second. I played Draw-Go and ended up winning like $3.50. All in all it was very fun. Afterwards I played some Mental Magic with Jimmy. It was a lot of fun, although our deck was very artifact heavy.

Last night I spent about an hour and a half cleaning my desk. It was loaded with random papers and crap. I got it ALL cleaned off. I am now very happy that it is clean. My new computer is all ready to be built and put in place of my old one. Tomarrow I shall build it, and Monady I shall but Batlefield 1942 to play on it. While I am waiting to play Batlefield 1942 I shall play Team Fortress Clasic. I can't wait.

Tomarrow will be new Type 2. I am planning on playing Red Rain. It seems pretty fun, but I still need a lot of testing. I don't really know what to do against Slide, and it really strugles against WW. So I don't expect to do well. It will be fun though.

Well I think thats it for now. Until later,

Post of the Day

Hi all. Bah, today I have been feeling sick. Being sick sucks. So I don't feel like doing the normal things I do.

WARNING: This only relates to those who live in the state of Illinois.

I did see something that made me mad on the TV though. Our stupid, idiot, moron Governor Rob Blagojevich has just said that he is going to try to make doing community service a requirement for completing high school. He is wanting kids to do a minimum of 40 hours of community service to pass high school. This is one of the stupidest things ever. I mean don't get me wrong, community service is good and all for those who want to do it, but to require it is just wrong. You should have a right as to what you do. You should not be forced to do community service if you don't want to. It was a mistake to even have him elected Governor. He has done nothing good since he has been in office.

Well that about all for today. I most likely wont post again until Saturday night. Make sure to come to the Dragon's Table Saturday for the 1.5 tornement. Also, come Sunday for the Oct. Type 2. It will be lots of fun.

I just got my computer stuff I ordered in the mail! Hopefully Monday, if I get my video card, I will be able to put it together. I should be getting the video card any day now. Expect to hear back monday night. I will be quite happy. I will post later tonight hopefully.

Post of the Day

Hi all!

Tongiht was fun. I did some more type two testing. My deck went 7-1 and only lost to a very un-type 2 deck. So it is looking very good.

It is offical, the Half-Life 2 source code and beta have been stolen and leaked. The sorce code is almost complete if not the full thing. The beta I heard was pretty complete. It has at least 20 levels on it, and is almost fully playable. It is also rumored that the new Counter Strike and Team Fortress betas have also been stolen. Here are a two screen shots of Half-Life 2:

Pic One. Looks like a drivable vehicle. Also shows how huge the levels will be.
Pic Two. Shows how very great the graphics will be.

So far the graphics are awsome. It is truly sad that the source and beta were stolen though. It certain means a lose of money for Valve. Also the game has been delayed all the way back to April. Truely sad. I hope they find and prosecute whoever did this.

Well thats about all for now. So until later,

Post of the Day

Hi all,

Today I did some Nov. Type 2 testing. I am trying out the deck Red Rain. It is basically red land distruction. So far it does very good vs. MBC, and does pretty decently against U/W control. And I had some troble with slide but I seem to have gotten over it. It seems that if I go first I almost certinly end up winning. If I don't it depends on their draw and mine. THe deck seems to be very fun, and I have all the cards from it except a few Starstorms. It looks like I will be playing it this weekend at the Dragons Table. I still need testing so anyone can come in on tuesdays or fridays to test with me.

This week is a lot of people's birthdays. Tim's birthday is tomarrow. Happy Birthday Tim!! And Kurt's was yesterday. Happy Birthday again Kurt!

Tonight we also tried to play Ridk but we horribly failed. Once we started none of us remebered the rules. It was kinda sad. So next week we shall try again.

Thats about it for now. Until Later,

Dreamcatcher Review

I just got finished watching the DVD for the movie Dreamcatcher, by Stephen King. Man it was a good movie. It had a good mix of suspense, horror, and humor.

The basic plot is a story of four men, who are best friends, that are going on an annual winter vacation to a cabin in the woods. After the first night there, a man comes up to their cabin who has been lost in the woods. He asks for help, and they help him. They eventually find out that the lost man had an alien in him while two of the other friends were out trying to get help. It turns out the government knows about these aliens and is trying to stop the spreading of the infection.

This movie had a great ending, and some good humor at the right times. The DVD had some very cool extras too. Including, an alternate ending, some deleting scenes, an interview with Stephen King, and a making of the movie. I recommend this movie to those who want to have something entertaining and scary at the same time. I give this movie an 8/10.

Post of the Day

Hi all! I just got back from The Dargon's Table. They had a type 2 tourney today. I split for thir/forth, and I ended up getting 5 dollars store credit. The top four was: Brant, playing wake, Nathan, playing U/G Madnees, Me playing wake, and Kurt playing astral slide.

I need to also say Happy Birthday to Kurt. Today was his birthday and he turned sixteen. Yay Kurt!!
Afte rthe tourney me and Jimmy played some Mental Magic. It was very fun. I used my random rare box for the deck. I turned out great. I highly suggest trying it. It gives a new twist to magic, and is a challange to your magic knowledge.

Tomarrow will be fun. I plan on doing some Oct. 20th type two testing. Also we might play Star Munchkin. Adam should be there, along with Kurt and Andy, and Evan I think will also come.

Until later,

Ultra Pro Sleeve Review

In the past I have used Ultra Pros and have always been disappointed in their quality. They were generally cut too short to fully protect a card. They also always seemed to be rough on the edges. This made me want to find a new brand of sleeves. I found out about Dragon Shields and purchased some. I then switched to Dragon Shields because of their superior quality. I have also tried the Super Japanese brand. They were okay, but they showed where quick. Also, after a while the corners on them became bent, which made it hard to shuffle. So I was pretty much stuck on buying Dragon Shields until recently.

Lately my favorite brand of sleeves, dragon shields, has had some major quality issues. It first started with one pack of them being so badly miscut that you had to break the top open your self. This was very annoying, and many of the sleeves were damaged in the process. Another pack I got the sleeves were miscut to were the cards didn't fully fit in the card protector. Also, one of my friends recently played in a high level event with dragon shields and got a match loss for marked sleeves. It was because half of the sleeves had a different height than the other half. They were new sleeves that he had just bought too. This made me very mad, and I was determined to find a new brand.

I saw some people using some new Ultra Pros that were surprisingly good in quality. They were textured Ultra Pro card protectors. They come in a different variety of colors, including red, blue, green, and orange among others. As soon as my local store, The Dragons Table, got them in I purchase 100 of them. I quickly resleeved one of my decks eager to get in some testing. I really like the quality and the way they felt. By the end of the night I was set, I had to get more. I purchased another 100 of a different color, and for the last week been playing with them almost non-stop.

So far they have showed minimal where in a deck that gets shuffled about 6 times more than the average deck. The fronts still look very shiny, and the backs still have a great feel. The price is also unbeatable at $3 for 50. You can easily sleeve two decks for 9 dollars. I am very pleased in how good they are, and I believe this will be my new brand that I play with all the time. I highly recommend purchasing these sleeves for your next deck.

Post of the Day

Well today is an extended tourney. I hope I do well. I am playing tinker. I havn't played it much but I have played it before. I got to get going. Tonghit I will post my review on the new ultra pro sleeves. One last thing, I FINALLY got my game. I ordered it like two weeks ago and it came today. It is typing of the dead. It is pretty sweet. I will have a review in about a week. See ya.

Post Of The Day

Hey there! Well I have submitted my blog to a few Webrings and Search engines. I will see what happens with that. So far I submitted it to Google, a blog search engine, a blog webring, and a magic webring. Hopfully I will get some people from that. My next task is to get a message board for this blog. I WANT to hear from my readers, if I have any lol. I guess it would be hard to have some if no one yet knows about this blog.

Tonight was rather fun. I played about 15 casual games with a guy named Ron. He was very nice and had some interesting decks. I played my five casual decks over and over. But it was still fun. That's all that matters.

I have been testing my Academy deck recently too. Mostly just Go Fish games, but testing is testing. Here is my list, if you have any suggestions email me. (Do notice I do not own a full set of Power Nine.):
